Cardinals win! Woo Hoo! On the way to the league championship series against the Dodgers!

Goodbye to the greatest Cardinal ever. I think maybe heaven has a new harmonica player today.

that I am developing a habit of being in the hospital (for work) whenever the Cardinals stage these amazing come-from-behind wins in the playoffs.

Today is the long awaited 2012 home opener...and it is against those lovable losers.

The Cardinals got off to a decent start on the road. Here's to hoping they can keep it up on their home stand!
If the weather were better here, I might take some time off work and try to catch the game.

However, here is another treat for all of you [livejournal.com profile] spn_bigpretzel fans. A really BIG pretzel!

Yes I realize that not everyone is a baseball fan.

Yes I realize that not all baseball fans are Cardinals fans.

But I really had to laugh when I read this article from a West Coast sports writer:

Craig is a name to remember after Game 1 heroics

Dude, Allen Craig's pet tortoise has over 18,000 followers on Twitter (which is 16,000 more than the sports writer who wrote the article).  Given that Allen Craig is a utility player who made in major league debut last year, I don't think he has gone unnoticed. Except maybe by those who think nothing much happens in flyover country outside of Chicago.

CARDS WIN!

They beat the Phillies in the Division Series and move on to play the Brewers in the League Championship Series.

And LaRussa mentioned Torty again tonight in the post-game interview!

I have to admit, I gave up on them. And as the daughter of a die-hard Cubs, my dad wouldn't exactly be proud of that fact. But to be honest, the Cardinals were 10 1/2 games back of the Braves in the wild card race on August 25th. No one really expected them to do much, especially with all of the injuries they faced this year and with their best hitter in a slump. But we were all wrong. They somehow pulled together and managed to go 23-9 after that while the Braves self-imploded at that same time.

So last night, if the Cardinals managed to win against Houston, they were guaranteed a one game playoff for the wild card spot. They did their part, but they wont need the one game playoff. The Braves once again fell apart, this time letting go of a 3-2 lead in the 9th and loosing to the Phillies 4-3 in the 13th inning. Now the Cardinals will face those same Phillies in the Division Series starting this series. See, this is one of the reasons I love October.
